What's so cool about the DBI?

• Apart from being the base of lots of other cool Perl stuff (SQL Fairy, Class::DBI, and Tangram, but only if you're Sam)?
• Reasonably database independent, while
• being very rich (and hence TMTOWTDI) in the API.
